Download The New KDE SC 4.10 Default Wallpaper

A new default wallpaper, which will be used for the new KDE SC 4.10, was pushed to the KDE GIT repository today:

The new default wallpaper animates the default KDE look & feel and is definitely an improvement from the previously default greyish background:

According to the KDE SC 4.10 release schedule, KDE SC 4.10 release candidate 1 should be available tomorrow while the final release is expected on January 23. KDE Plasma 4.10 will also introduce a new default Air theme – for more information, see THIS post.
You can download the new KDE SC 4.10 wallpaper from HERE (click the link for the resolution you want, then click “background.png”, right click the wallpaper and select “Save image as”).

Evernote Linux Client `Everpad` Available For GNOME Shell, KDE

Everpad UnityEverpad, an Evernote (note taking service) client for Linux, has reached version 2.3, getting GNOME Shell support (TopIcon extension is recommended), along with other new features and improvements.

The latest Everpad 2.3 should now work with GNOME Shell, however, since the GNOME Shell Message Tray is not intended for applications such as Everpad, it’s recommended to use it with the TopIcon extension.

That’s not all that’s new in the latest Everpad 2.3. The new version also brings drag’n’drop for images and files, printing and RTL support.
Since our last post on Everpad, the application has improved a lot! For instance, Everpad works under KDE and it even comes with Krunner integration (press ALT + F2 to open Krunner, then type “create note” to quickly create a new note with Everpad, or you can search for existing notes, etc.).

Variety Wallpaper Changer Sees New Release

Variety, a cool wallpaper changer that works with most desktop environments (KDE, LXDE, Xfce, Unity, GNOME Shell, Cinnamon or Pantheon), has reached version 0.4.12.

quotes support – Variety can fetch quotes from QuotesDaddy and display them on top of the desktop. Install Variety wallpaper changer
Variety is available in the Ubuntu Software Center (for Ubuntu 12.04 / 12.10), but the version is quite old so to install the latest version, you can use its official PPA, available for Ubuntu Precise and Quantal:sudo add-apt-repository ppa:peterlevi/ppa
sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get install variety
Arch Linux users can get Variety wallpaper changer via AUR.

For other Linux distributions, the Variety source code can be downloaded via Launchpad.

Insync Repository Available For Ubuntu, Linux Mint And Debian Users

insync ubuntuInsync, an unofficial Google Drive client for Linux, is now available in a repository for Ubuntu, Linux Mint and Debian users and it’s recommended you add since you’ll get automatic updates.

The Insync repository is available for:
Ubuntu: natty, oneiric, precise and quantal Debian: squeeze and lennyLinux Mint: lisa and maya
If you’re using one of the above Ubuntu, Debian or Linux Mint versions, add the repository using the following command:

– for Ubuntu:
echo “deb http://apt.insynchq.com/ubuntu $(lsb_release -cs) non-free” | sudo tee /etc/apt/sources.list.d/insync.list
– for Debian:
echo “deb http://apt.insynchq.com/debian $(lsb_release -cs) non-free” | sudo tee -a /etc/apt/sources.list
– for Linux Mint
echo “deb http://apt.insynchq.com/mint $(lsb_release -cs) non-free” | sudo tee /etc/apt/sources.list.d/insync.list

Then, for any of the above, import the key and update the software sources:

And finally, install Insync if you haven’t already:

Unity (appindicator):
sudo apt-get install insync-beta-ubuntu

    `Photo` Is A Fancy Image Viewer Written In Qt [Ubuntu PPA]

    Photo is a fast, fancy and highly configurable image viewer written in Qt.
    Besides supporting most popular image formats like gif, jpeg, png, bmp, tiff, xpm and so on, Photo can also perform some basic image manipulation like rotating, flipping or zooming, display exif information and comes with a beautiful interface. When opening an image, you can quickly switch to another image in the same folder by using the thumbnails displayed at the bottom:

    The menu is hidden by default and can be accessed by pointing the mouse to the top right edge of the screen. In the same way, the exif information is initially hidden and is displayed when your mouse goes near the top left screen edge. Since Photo is highly customizable, you can change how the menu is displayed and other UI settings from the Photo preferences.

    Install Photo in Ubuntu
    Ubuntu Quantal, Precise and Oneiric users can install Photo from a PPA, using the instructions below:sudo add-apt-repository ppa:samrog131/ppa

    Note: the above PPA contains a lot of KDE packages – if you don’t need them, you can remove the PPA after installing Photo:sudo add-apt-repository -r ppa:samrog131/ppa

    To make Photo the default image viewer under GNOME / Unity, open System Settings and select Photo under Details > Default applications > Photos.

      Unofficial Google Drive Linux Client `Insync` Hits Beta 9

      insync linuxInsync, an unofficial Google Drive client for Linux, has reached beta 9, fixing the MS Office formats (files now downloaded as ODF) and glibc errors for Debian users, so the deb files aren’t just for Ubuntu anymore.
      Insync for Linux is free while in beta, but will probably become a paid service when it becomes stable. Hopefully, Google will release an official Google Drive client by then.
